This piano was sampled at Hans Zimmer's legendary Remote Control Productions in Santa Monica. It is one of the few remaining **Victory Vertical pianos** in existence. Following its recent restoration, it has evolved into a one-of-a-kind working instrument, carrying the scars of its turbulent past within its unique tonal character.

Amid the brutal chaos of World War II, wartime metal rationing forced Steinway & Sons to halt piano production. Instead, their factory in Queens manufactured coffins and glider components. Later, Steinway was commissioned to build more than 3,000 **Victory Vertical pianos** — rugged, imposing instruments finished in olive drab, blue, and grey. Airdropped onto battlefields and shipped complete with tuning kits, they brought comfort and solace to American troops.

Known affectionately as **G.I. Steinways**, these portable uprights were hauled by jeeps between 1942 and 1953. They sparked joy and camaraderie, letting soldiers sing, laugh, and remember home. Their music became a hopeful heartbeat amid despair.
